1981 - 86 : Establishment of the seed of STEP-Product Development Centre supporting Small Scale Industries

1986 - 87 : Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, identifies SJCE as an institution to establish the first STEP in the country. First Entrepreneurship Development Programme organized.

1988 - 89 : Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI) along with Industrial Credit & Investment Corporation of India (ICICI) and Industrial corporation of India (IFCI) supports infrastructure development. First batch of Fresh Engineering graduates underwent Entrepreneurship Development Programme.

1990 - 91 : UNESCO sponsors South Asian Regional Seminar on 'Entrepreneurial Engineering Design and Product Development Facilities in Technical Institutions'. 11 South East Asian countries participated. Continuing Education/Skill development Centre for working professionals established. Provided consultancy to Universitie Technologie, Malaysia in setting up and managing a Science Park.

1992 - 93 : Establishment of the Centre to provide a facility for selective dissemination of information of interest to entrepreneurs. STEP entrepreneur bags the 'Best Science-Tech Entrepreneurs Award- National Award sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. STEP's reach to rural areas in terms of training in need-based areas

1994 - 95 : Participated as consultants in the Canada-India Institutional Cooperation Project. Activity of Escort Services in ISO 9000 Certification initiated. M/s BT Solders, Mysore, escorted by SJCE-STEP, obtains ISO 9002 Certification. Establishment of the PC Servicing Centre. Government of Karnataka identifies SJCE-STEP to develop strategies for implementation of fresh graduate Entrepreneurship in Agricultural Universities Bureau of Indian Standards identified STEP-DBIC as extension centre. SJCE-STEP adjudged the BEST STEP in the country.

1996 - 97 : Quality Assurance Centre established facilitation Calibration and Testing with traceability to international standards. Internet facilities installed providing access for entrepreneurs to reach the global market. Government of Karnataka identified SJCE-STEP as a Nodal Agency for bringing in Quality Movement in the four districts-Mysore, Mandya, Hassan and Kodagu-STEP identified as an agency to prepare 'Zoning Atlas for Sitting of Industries' by the Central Pollution Control Board, Govt. of India. Director, STEP, on a three main mission for 'Project Impact'- a bilateral project between the Govt. of India and the Govt. of Switzerland

1998 - 99 : Software Entrepreneur and Employee Development centre SEED established paying a catalytic role in enhancing the growth of IT industries in the region.   

1999 - 2000 : High tech training center with focus on Embedded System and Software launched jointly by L&T.

2000 - 2001 : SJCE-STEP has bagged the National award as BEST STEP in the country by the Dept of Science & Technology, Govt. of India for the year 2000-2001.
